The incident of Karbala is an important and significant event in Islamic history, which is observed on the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. It took place in the city of Karbala, where Imam Hussain ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and many of his family members and companions went to in the year 61 AH (680 CE).


Cause of the Incident:


The incident was a result of the oppressive regime of Yazid ibn Muawiya, who was appointed as the first caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate. Yazid was a tyrant and an unjust ruler who promoted corruption and oppression instead of justice and fairness.


Yazid's Caliphate System:


Yazid demanded Imam Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) to pledge allegiance to him, but Imam Hussain refused to do so because Yazid's way of life was in direct contrast to Islamic principles and laws. Imam Hussain sought to establish justice and peace and refused to compromise on his principles.


The Sequence of Events:




Imam Hussain, along with his 72 companions, were intercepted by Yazid's army in Karbala. Despite being deprived of water and surrounded by Yazid's forces, they did not waver in their faith and principles and remained steadfast in their mission.


On the 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, the battle of Karbala commenced. It is one of the most crucial and bloodiest battles in world history. Imam Hussain's companions fought not only for their cause but also to support their Imam.


The battle concluded in the fields of Karbala, where Imam Hussain and his companions sacrificed their lives instead of pledging allegiance to Yazid and paying homage to his oppressive rule. They chose to offer their lives and established a new chapter in history, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy.


The Incident of Karbala, in Islam, holds a special place as it serves as an enduring example of sacrifice for upholding faith and principles. Imam Hussain's ultimate sacrifice and martyrdom have strengthened the foundations of Islam's principles and teachings.
